My Happy :: Hand Dyed Textiles

I have the opportunity to finally be creative again and work in a different medium…not sewing or making clothes. I get to be creative within a square piece of cloth. I don’t have to worry about sizing and other things I worry about with my freelance work. It’s a creative outlet, but it doesn’t have all the restrictions that I’ve been taught. I’m not a textile major, so I don’t know all the rules and therefore I don’t mind breaking them. I know all the rules in sewing and it sort of restricts me. But in this I feel a little more freedom because I’m not doing a certain technique…I’m doing it my own way. Sometimes not knowing all the rules gives you freedom.

I recently found out that my great-grandmother wanted to go to design school but got married and had children instead. I’d like to think that I inherited my love of textiles and sewing from her. // Aubrey
